March 2023 - Marama Matthews

For a number of years now my darling Mumma spoke about her wishes regarding her passing - regardless of any finer details the message was clear; 1. The songs, 2. Cremation and 3. Third, most importantly was an absolute strict rule - Do NOT waste any money on a Funeral Service; “Waste of blimmen money. And, actually - I don't want a casket - send me in a cardboard box if you can find one!" she would say. Over the years the conversation was normal to discuss and although we would all say "That's ages away Mum" and 'We'll sort it one day' we always knew how she wanted things to be... but that's all we knew, we had very little knowledge on where to buy 'people sized cardboard boxes' and did they even do Paper bags??! Fast forward really fast to February 2023 when my 78 years young Mother was diagnosed with Stage 4 Lung Cancer, and in only 4 short weeks she passed away in early March. It was during that time when we discovered Exit Funeral Services. Everything Exit offered was exactly as Mum requested. Rachael arrived and answered any questions we had, explained the process over the coming days and even organised with DCC that I be able to accompany mum to the crematorium - to take that very last journey with her. The professionalism, the quality of care they provide with empathy, dedication and carrying out Mum's wishes were second to none, exceptional. It made what was a difficult time in our lives all the more richer for being able to spend what time we had left with Mum. Ka nui te mihi ki a koutou katoa. Kia manaakitia koe i te aroha me te hauora mo te tau kei mua. Thank you all so much. May you be blessed with love and health for the year ahead. I would highly recommend Exit to friends, whanau and colleagues and when my day comes, I would like to Exit with Exit too.
