Rachael Morriss - Funeral Director / Mortician

My name is Rachael and I live in Waldronville with my husband and youngest 3 children.
When I was 16 most girls wanted to be a hair dresser, a make up artist or a nurse, I wanted to be a funeral director. I did my  research on how to become a funeral director and was led to a wellington phone number regarding gaining the qualification. I was promptly told by the facilitator, to not bother going down that path, that it would be a waste of time as Funeral Directing was seen as a mans job back then. Being the naive young woman I was, I accepted that and went back to the drawing board to find a 2nd choice path which turned out to be in the Healthcare industry. Over the following 20 years from then, through various healthcare roles at resthomes, private homes, hospitals and dental surgeries, I still had the pull towards being a funeral director, but it was never the 'right time' to be able to commit 100% to what is sometimes a  24/7 job. However, over the past 4 years I have been actively trying to get into the funeral industry as my home life finally allowed for my to give 100% commitment.

Almost 2 years ago I met Gary and Diane, we gelled from there and I was offered a Funeral Directors job here at Exit Funeral Services and its been a great 18 months.
Gary, Diane and myself always try to foster a relaxed workplace based on genuine compassion for the families we are supporting, as well as each other as a team should. This, mixed with light humour keeps a 'real' feeling about the business and I believe that that is one of our key point of differences in this industry.
